How to Winterize Your Skin…

If you are anything like me, and located in the Midwest, you might not be looking forward to the change that comes with the cold winter months. I am not only talking about the colder temperatures, the wind (hello Chicago), or the lack of sunshine, but the change that happens to my skin. Every winter, it never fails, my already normal to dry skin, feels even DRIER. I can suffer from red patches and tightness on my face, worse after a shower. It is definitely not fun.

I want to share my 5 must do easy steps you can take in order to be proactive in preventing the dreaded winter skin from even happening in the first place! I know my skin is much happier! Plus with working in internal medicine, I am all about prevention!

  1. Hydrate (your skin, and yourself). We all know how important it is to regularly push fluids, and drink plenty of water. Hydrating your skin is different than moisturizing. While moisturizing will keep moisture from escaping, hydrating serums will actually draw moisture from the atmosphere and input back in to your skin! Follow your hydration serum with a moisturizing lotion! You are in luck, I have just the thing! https://courtneykelly.myrandf.com/shop/active-hydration-serum/p/ENHEFG1
  2. Moisturize Regularly… keep your favorite lotion in your car, at your desk at work, on your bedside table. The more regularly you moisturize the less likely you will develop cracks, or painful red skin. Take it from someone who works in healthcare!
  3. Exfoliate… if your skin is feeling dry all over, gently exfoliate and remove dead skin cells prior to hydrating/moisturizing 1-3x per week. (remember those are 2 separate steps).
  4. Avoid chapped lips by being proactive! This is along the same lines as keep your favorite lotion everywhere. Don’t forget to keep your moisturizing “chap stick” with you, in your purse, car, bedside table, etc.
  5. Don’t forget your SPF, even in the winter months, it is super important to keep your skin sun protected.

Much love my friends,
