I am not a salesperson.

This is something I hear alot. I am not either. One of the most common concerns I hear when discussing my business is that most people are afraid of the word/action of “sales.”

Honestly, it was something that concerned me initially too. I never had any type of business or sales experience. How was I really going to sell anything? I certainly didn’t want to come across as “salesy.”

This business is more than the sale.

What I quickly learned is, this business is much more than “selling.” Sure, it is sales in that I have a product (an amazing product I might add) in which people can purchase, but this feels different, and see why…

Here are 3 reasons why…

  1. There is no added outside pressure from a “boss.” I am my own boss. I put into my business the time I want, and get out of it, what I put in. Don’t get me wrong, I put a certain level of added pressure on myself to grow, and find success, but I don’t have the stress of a boss looking over my shoulder. There are certain goals I strive to hit each and every month, but that is my own making. The added stress is different.
  2. This may seem cliche, but I really consider myself a “sharer.” I share with people these amazing products that actually work, and a business opportunity that has blessed my family’s future. That is it. Much like if I were to recommend a restaurant, or my favorite place to buy jeans. Have you ever recommended something to a friend? This really is the same thing. There is no need to overthink it and to make it into something it isn’t. In a recent post, I share 5 myths about building a business with Rodan+Fields, check it out here.
  3. With my approach, connection is so important. I truly value the relationships I am building with other people. Social media is a great tool to use to connect with others. On the platforms, I really strive to have a balanced approach when sharing about my life, things I love, and my business. You aren’t going to see me be an infomercial for my business. I look to provide value in the content I am sharing as well as build on the relationships that we create on the platform. It is creating the like, know, and trust factor with your audience.

I “sell” something everyday.

Lastly, I realized that really, I am “selling” something every day. I sell my kids on eating their broccoli. I sell my patients on the medication I am prescribing, or I sell my sister when I talk to her about the “must have” new pair of jeans I just bought. The list goes on. Honestly, it is how we perceive ourselves that really matters. It isn’t weird unless you made it weird. This may feel strange because it is unlike anything you have never done before. But the more you talk about what you have to offer, with clear focus, honest and open intention, the easier it gets. Don’t be afraid of the process of “sales.” It really isn’t a bad thing!

Until next time my friends, much love,
