“But… I am really busy.” It is probably one of the things I hear the most when I talk with new people about starting a side hustle. I totally get it, time management is a big thing. I was there too. Still am in fact. Continue to follow along to see how I learned to have better time management in my side hustle.
We are all busy.
When I started my business, I was practicing full time as a physician assistant. I had 2 very little girls at home, a 12 month old, and almost 3 year old. My time was limited from the start. I knew what kind of freedom this business would allow me if I put my head down and did the work. So I committed to doing the work. But I wondered how was I going to find the time?
What is a nook and cranny anyway?
I always cringe when someone says “nooks and crannies” because really what is a nook or a cranny? But it really is true. I used small pockets of my day to work my business, 15 minutes here, 30 minutes there. I was disciplined in doing the work, during nap time, after my girls went to bed. Being hyper focused on what needed to be done has helped me grow, and this goes back to being super intentional. I looked at my business activity the same way as my daily work out, or a well balanced diet. You aren’t going to get that 6 pack from working out once a month, right? I also wasn’t going to grow working only 1 day a week.
Ask for help and delegate.
I also learned how to delegate and ask for help. My husband has always been super supportive of my business. I was able to communicate with him the help I needed and he really stepped up to the plate. Now, that isn’t always the case. Side note, one sure fire way to get a skeptical hubby on board quickly is to start to earn. The only way to do that is to put your head down and do the work. This will earn you a paycheck which in turn will help him see this as a legitimate business.
You only get busier.
These regular disciplines I developed early on in my business have carried me far 4 years later. I have since had another baby. Now my girls are 7, 5, and 18 months. We have after school activities and I still practice medicine 24 hours a week. I really feel “busy” is all relative.
Checklist Must Have
Consistency is really key when you are building an online business and presence. When people are ready to have a conversation, you want them to think of you. Not the other person they see posting on social media. I developed my “daily must do” checklist and social media calendar guide that has helped me stay super focused. Plus, who doesn’t love to check things off a to-do list?! See both of these forms here.
I hope it helps you like it has me! Nothing beats crossing things off a list! For me, I feel accomplished, and it is almost therapeutic.
Until next time my friends, much love,
Court
